Mérieux NutriSciences AQ performs characterization and quantification of microorganisms in final products, intermediate products, and manufacturing environments. Our protocols follow ISO, TGA, BP, USP, and other accredited reference standard methods, as well as the official recommendations from all major international regulatory bodies.

Cosmetics Testing

Cosmetic products are substances designed to be used on any external part of the body or inside the mouth to change its odour or appearance, cleanse it, keep it in good condition or protect it (Reference: Australian Government Department of Health). Our Science Center experts conduct microbial testing on cosmetics.

Range of safety and quality control tests for cosmetics includes:

• Challenge tests
• Microbial activity or ‘in use’ tests to assess the efficiency of antimicrobial preservation agents
• Stability testing of cosmetics form and/or determination of the period after opening (PAO)
• Microbiological analyses
• Staphylococcus aureus
• Pseudomonas aeruginosa
• Candida albicans
• Escherichia coli (E. coli)
• Salmonella
• Clostridium
• Bile-tolerant Gram-Negative Bacteria
• TAMC and TyMC (Total Aerobic Microbial Count, Total combined Yeasts and Molds Count)
• Validation of cleaning and sanitizing procedures
• Microorganism isolation, identification, characterization, and storage can be conducted in our international network (DNA sequencing by WGS & MALDI-TOF)
• * Our laboratory does not conduct cosmetics animal testing.
