What is FSSC 22000?

FSSC 22000 (Food Safety System Certification 22000) is a global certification standard for food safety management systems. It is designed to ensure that organizations in the food supply chain meet rigorous food safety and quality requirements. In addition, FSSC 22000 offers GFSI recognition and a strong integrity program while providing greater market opportunities and trust compared to ISO 22000.

What has changed from FSSC 22000 V5.1 to V6?

The FSSC 22000 V6 has 4 new scopes added: animal primary conversion, pre-process handling of plant products (BIII), trading and brokering (FII), and pet food moved into category C. In addition to the scope changes, FSSC 22000 V6 has two scopes removed as well: farming scope (category A) and FSSC 22000-Quality. On top of the above updates, FSSC V6 has a few additional requirements too:

  • 2.5.8 Food Safety and Quality Culture
  • 2.5.9 Quality Control
  • 2.5.15 Equipment Management (Hygenic Design)
  • 2.5.17 Communication Requirements (CO to CB)
  • 2.5.16 Food Loss and Waste

Please note: Audits against the FSSC 22000 V5.1 are only allowed to be delivered up to 31 March 2024. Upgrade audits against FSSC 22000 Scheme V6 shall be conducted from 1 April 2024 until 31 March 2025, and all organizations will have to complete the V6 upgrade audit before 31 March 2025.
